Volunteers are welcome to help in our programs aimed at improving adult literacy or promoting literacy education for children. Volunteers typically commit one or two days a week, and training is provided for those interested in becoming one-to-one tutors or helping in our Drop-In Center.
Hawaii Literacy has an on-going need for talented volunteers to assist or join Board-led committees for Public Relations & Marketing, Event Planning, and Fund Development. We also seek volunteers who are able and willing to serve as volunteer webmaster, social media assistants, or IT assistants. Our programs also seek volunteer on-call drivers to make occasional pick ups or drop offs of books and in-kind donations. For students or volunteers with strong writing, communication and computer skills, we have opportunities for long term (at least 1 semester) interns or assistants in grant writing, event planning, fundraising, database management or program support. Office and writing support must be able to commit to at least one half-day per week. School credit may be available.
