At Hawaii Literacy, our mission is to help people gain knowledge and skills by providing literacy and lifelong learning services. In Hawai’i, 1 in 6 adults have problems in reading and writing, including nearly 5,600 adults here in Kaua’i. Students come from all sorts of backgrounds and circumstances but they all share a common goal: obtaining or improving on their reading and writing skills to make their lives better for themselves, their family, and their community.
Do you have solid reading and writing skills? Are you willing to share these skills with someone who has difficulty with the two? Do you have the time and patience to passing along your knowledge? If you would like to take on the challenge of becoming a tutor, then you will have to take up a 16-hour training course (divided in to four sessions) before you can be nationally certified. You, as the tutor, and your student decide on the place and hours but it is suggested you meet at least twice a week for an hour or hour and a half. If you are interested, please contact Dennis Dresser.
