Thank you to Barnes & Noble-Ala Moana, MMA Hawaii Magazine, BJ Penn, and the 7 volunteers who helped us in a fundraising event for Hawaii Literacy on June 28 at Ala Moana Shopping Mall. The children were super excited about meeting a local athlete and had a great time combing the children's book section.

A percentage of all proceeds earned will go to Hawaii Literacy's Classroom on Wheels Program (Bookmobile) and the Family Libraries.

Mayor Wright Housing Culture Fair
Saturday, July 19th 10am to 2pm

The Family Library program of Hawaii Literacy will setup informational booth at Mayor Wright Housing Culture Fair from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday July 19. Please come by and learn more about Hawaii Literacy and other community partners that will show case their resources for the community. There will be entertainers from Samoa, Tonga, and Micronesia. Local food and popcorn, shave ice, cotton candy will be served free of charge. Expected turn out is 200 residents with special guest visits from Mayor Mufi Hannemann, Senator Suzanna Chun Oakland, and Representative Karl Rhoades. Here's the address:

Volunteers Needed - Adult Drop-In Center

When: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
11:30 am-1:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 am-11:00 am

Where: At Kaumakapili Church, 766 N. King Street

Duties: Either teach ESL classes, tutor a student, help with advertising or help with keeping our English learning Drop-In Center organized. Training is provided.

Volunteers Needed - Adult Literacy Program

Teach an English speaking adult to read and write. Tutors are needed urgently for our Adult Literacy Program. We will train you (16 hours training). Hours and location vary to suit you and your student. Tutoring is on a weekly, ongoing basis. Check out our Tutor Orientation and Training Schedule for January to June 2008.

Since 1971, Hawaii Literacy has helped thousands of adults learn the basic reading and writing skills to get better jobs, improve their parenting skills, and succeed in life.

Dedicated to helping people gain knowledge and skills by providing literacy and life long learning services, we continue our mission through our various literacy programs.
