Family Literacy
Description
The Family Literacy Program is comprised of two libraries/community centers for all residents of Kuhio Park Terrace and Mayor Wright Housing. In addition to checking out books (which have all been donated), patrons can participate in weekly story hour, literacy activities, and receive help with homework or writing letters for business matters. Community volunteer groups offer Saturday story hour events, too.
Volunteer
Would you like to help improve the literacy skills of children? Hawaii Literacy is looking for volunteers to help with our Family Literacy program. Volunteers are needed to help run educational activities for children, parents and/or caregivers at Mayor Wright Homes and Kuhio Park Terrace. This may include reading books aloud, helping with an art or writing activity, or assisting people in choosing and checking out books. A criminal background check is required.
Hours
Library/Family Literacy Center Open Hours
Monday and Wednesday - 1pm to 5pm at Mayor Wright
Tuesday and Thursday - 1pm to 5pm at Kuhio Park Terrace
Saturday story hours are 9am to 11am on select weekends (please see upcoming events).
**Volunteer times are flexible, as some volunteer work can be done before and/or after library service hours.
