Drop-in Center

Description

Imagine helping an adult increase his or her English speaking, reading, and writing skills in order to become a more active member of society. Hawaii Literacy's Adult Drop-In Center offers reading and writing assistance to adults with low-level literacy skills; it also offers small classes in speaking English.

The Drop-In Center is designed to be an open environment supporting anyone needing assistance from a variety of skill levels, backgrounds and commitment levels. Students may come one-time only, as needed, or on a consistent basis. Services are available to English speakers and those with little English speaking capabilities

Depending upon the needs of those seeking assistance and on the availability of volunteers, the Center offers one-to-one, small group, and classroom settings. Volunteers work with adults on a variety of subjects from the improvement of reading and writing skills to assisting with filling out forms, writing a letter, or studying for a Citizenship or Driver's License test. Volunteers also offers assistance in speaking the English language. On-the job training will be provided to complement any previous experience volunteer may have.
